Calling All Olympians!

With the 2012 Olympics well underway in London and the fantastic summer weather here in NYC, it could not be a better time for an outdoor Olympian themed party! We searched our memories for our favorite field day activities growing up, as well as did some Pinterest scouring to put together an amazing new board for your party inspiration. Let's take a look at some of the highlights!

SET THE STAGE
Greet your guests at an athlete's registration table and provide any materials for the party. (Team jersey, favors etc.)
Cupcakes are an easy way to serve guests quickly and don't require extra tableware.
This is an adorable and creative themed table.

ACTIVITIES!
A relay race gets pretty silly when each contestant must relay in the style of card selected.
3 legged race is the ultimate team work!

This looks hilarious and fun! Shower caps are put on and topped with shaving cream or whip cream. Then the team mate must see how many cheetos they can get to stick a landing.

A small balance beam is an easy DIY with a couple blocks and a 2x4.

Kids can get crafty with a medal decoration craft.
Lucky for you we have characters AND party coordinators who can lead children through games at your Olympian party! Better yet, book your party before the end of August and your birthday child will receive a free gift at the time of our visit!!

Royal party games week 3

This week's royal party game comes to us courtesy of www.princesspartygames.net. A wonderful site full of creatively themed games. Happy partying!

Stealing The Dragon's Treasure
(Stealing the Dragon’s Treasure is suitable for ages six and up.)

The story
A fierce, ancient dragon has moved in to the Kingdom and has been creating mayhem. The dragon has even managed to steal the Crown Jewels! As you are amongst the bravest Princesses (and Princes!) of the Kingdom, it is your job to sneak in to the Dragon’s Lair and recover your Royal treasure. There is one advantage in your favour! Although the dragon is very fierce when awake, it is now asleep after a very busy day of causing trouble in the Kingdom. Of course everyone knows that even while asleep a dragon is dangerous – so this is a the perfect opportunity for you to practice your silent walking. Creeping around may just come in handy around the Castle if you are in the mood for a midnight snack!

What you need
A quiet place to play with plenty of room. A blindfold, a bunch of keys & a metal or ceramic bowl. The important thing is to have a noisy object that is difficult to pick up quietly. This can be played outdoors, if you have a suitably quiet location.

Gameplay
Choose a player to be the dragon. The player is blindfolded and sits down at one end of the area. Place the keys in the bowl in front of the dragon. Now explain to everyone that this is the treasure the Princesses are trying to recover.

The remaining players stand quietly at the far end of the playing area. A distance of 10-15 feet is ideal, but work with what you have. Each of the Princesses take their turn to sneak up to recover the treasure (the keys) and return them to the starting line.

The dragon listens for the players sneaking up, while pretending to be asleep. This is why the other players need to be quiet to give the dragon a fair chance. The dragon can point and roar (breathing fire!) in the direction they think they can hear the incoming player.

If the dragon does catch a player, the hapless Princess must lay down on the spot. The next brave player then makes their approach. There is usually a player who, when being the dragon, will point in many directions very quickly. Stop the game and explain that a dragon needs a moment in between fiery breaths to recover. Focus on what you can hear as the dragon player.

Winning!
If a Princess can return the treasure (keys) to the start line without being caught by the dragon, the round is over & they take the dragon’s place next round. If all players were caught, the dragon wins the round. Choose a new player to be dragon for the next round. Run the game for as many rounds as the children are interested. With under 10’s this can run for three or four rounds – older kids may want more chances, perhaps for every player to have a chance at sitting on the treasure.

Royal party games week 2

Hello again royal guests! This week launches the 2nd in our royal party game series. What makes this week's games unique is that all three can be done without any materials and pulled out at any time. Having these in your back pocket can come in handy especially when you run into unexpected delays during your party and may need to keep young guests engaged and happy. Enjoy!

Princess Charades
Someone is appointed the "official Jester of the court," (preferably one of the grown ups or an older child). Select the person who will go first. The jester will whisper a (super top secret) word or phrase of a royal nature to the first person and will not participate in guessing with the others. The first person stands in front of guests and must act out the jester's word or phrase without using any sound. Whoever guesses the correct word or phrase is the next person to go and the process starts again.

Princess Trivia Game
Let's turn on those listening ears and put on our thinking caps! Princess Trivia is conducted by providing 3 clues about a princess and having your royal guests guess which princess it may be. Bonus points for those who can incorporate singing parts of the princesses' songs! For example: "This princess prefers to keep her house very tidy, she's always on the run and she sings the song 'A dream is a wish your heart makes.....when you're fast asleep...'" Answer: Cinderella! Being creative in your clues can make it all the more fun :)

Princess Says
This game has the same rules as "Simon Says" except guests will be led by their "Princess." All guests stand in front of the princess and do as their instructed as long as the phrase "Princess says," is mentioned beforehand. (For example: "Princess say clap your hands.") Anyone caught doing what the princess didn't say must sit down. (For example: "Clap your hands.") The last person standing wins the game and then becomes the princess!

Have a ball with these royal party games

Today we'll be kicking off a series of posts all centered around the theme of "Royal Party Games!" One of our princesses' favorite things are to play games. You would think that when it comes to parties in NYC the one thing you don't have is space for party games. We beg to differ! While our NYC kingdom parties may lack the grand ballrooms of our castles, these games make up for the lack of space with miles of creativity and tons of fun! Over the next few weeks we'll be showcasing some of our simple, and most importantly FUN party games that work for royal guests ages 3-10. Also, all of these games are diverse enough to cover entertaining from your studio apartment all the way up to a community center rec room. Happy playing!

THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG

Things you’ll need:
A bag of Hershey’s kisses
Blindfold
Paper Slips (1 for each guest)
Pen
A bag, Bowl or Hat

Getting Ready:
Step 1:  Write the word ‘frog’ on one slip of paper.
Step 2:  Write the names of other animals on all the other pieces.
Step 3:  Fold each piece of paper, and put it in the bag, bowl or hat.

When the guests arrive:
Step 1: Choose one guest to be the princess.  We of course suggest this being the birthday girl herself to start!
Step 2:  All the other guests form a circle around the princess.
Step 3:  Blindfold the princess.
Step 4: Have all the guests pick a piece of paper until someone gets the one that says ‘frog.’
Step 5:  The princess then says, “with this kiss, the frog becomes a prince.’  The guests then all start making the sounds of their animal, but only the child that has the "frog" slip may say ‘ribbit.’
Step 6:  The princess should walk towards the frog, using the ribbit sounds as her guide.
Step 7:  When she thinks she knows who the frog is, she should hand that guest the kiss.
Step 8:  If she guesses right, the frog gets to keep the kiss, and sits out the next round while the player to the right of her is the princess.
Step 9:  If she guesses wrong, then guest gives back the kiss, and must sit out while play starts again, with the frog now playing the princess.
